Weekly rewind - W44 ⏪
I’ve not been writing much this week, although I saved some ideas.
But being away on a short family holiday provided a nice disconnect and made me focus on reading and some much-needed quality sleep.

Week in rewind
- Most of the week we’ve been away with our family and my sister-in-law’s. We went to a resort with plenty of children's activities so they could enjoy playing while we had a pleasant time talking and reading.
- This was the first trip with our first fully electric car. Driving is not as different as a regular car, but you need to consider charging. While you find a gas station at every street corner, electric charging points are not, and they require different membership cards. You also need to consider charging time, which can go rather quick, but still, at least 10-20min has to be calculated on top of your travel time. This can be quite stressful, as I found out when I had an early hospital appointment while the car was not fully ready yet.
- We enjoyed the majority of the week, but unfortunately also experienced a severe accident at the bowling alley. For some reason, the hand of my son got stuck in the bowling bal return machine while it kept turning. He stayed amazingly calm while we blocked the machine and later on dismantled it to free him. He even didn’t complain about the 3rd degree burns he got as a result of it, but as a result some hospital trips were needed to examine and treat his wounds. He’ll have surgery in a few days, so normally everything should be ok, but this was one of those moments when your heart stops beating as a parent.
- Today, the boy-scouts I’ve been part of half of my life had their annual waffle festival. While delicious, they also provided me with some memories of all the festivals I’ve attended in the past, even some from when I was young.
Watched
- Woman of the hour — Netflix (★ ★ ★ ★ ☆): A movie about how an aspiring actress gets set up with a serial killer during a dating show.
I had some difficulty following all the story jumps that were not shown chronologically but did enjoy the overall true story and cinematography.
Reading
It helped, being away and digitally disconnected, to do some reading and finish one book.
- The man with 1000 faces (★ ★ ★ ★ ★): A novel about a fictitious country on the border with Russia where after the murder of the president, his brother has to step in to save the country and his family legacy. A great novel with current themes like AI deep fakes and foreign interference from Russia and the USA.
- Pillars of the earth: still ongoing, about 6 more hours to listen to.
Listening
Most of my listening was done in the car where my children took over my Spotify playlists, making me listen to anything Super Mario, Pokémon, and Minecraft.
Apps in focus
No new app installs this week, except for some that helped my plan our car charging and vacation travel.
