Weekly rewind - W26-27-28 ⏪
I'm still alive and writing 😊
⏪ Weeks in rewind
⏪ Feels like forever since I wrote something for this blog, which in fact is almost true as my last entry was from June 26th, The days when I don't show up ✍️ about my cycle of action and inaction.
🚗 The reason for this long delay is that we've been on a 2-week family holiday, and I didn't spend a lot of time online or feel a need to write. Just like our previous trip to Malta, most days were packed with lots of activities, so in the evening I took the time to relax, downloaded the photos of the day, wrote an update for the home front and did some reading. In a similar way as what I wrote in A baseline reset ✍️, being away (and perhaps being active every day) again made me reset my needs and only do the bare necessities. Or what I felt I needed to do.
🏖️ For our family holiday, we went to the Alsace area in France. We've had a great time here visiting the many beautiful, picturesque towns, castles, WW2 remnants, theme parks and lakes. This holiday was the first one going with our full electric car, and while I was a bit nervous regarding charging, especially in the smaller towns we were staying at, it all went well. France isn't as equipped when it comes to charging points (like we have in Belgium) and sometimes spots were taken just for parking (especially when at grocery stores?!), but luckily, quick-charge stations were relatively close by that helped us get through. A good app with all charging points and a supported card does help.
📷 I've been documenting our trip with my X100VI, and I loved it. It felt so good when I walked around with the camera in hand and focused on the shots and exposure & mood. Perhaps to the annoyance of my family, seeing me yet again lagging behind. This is also the first holiday where I've switched to only use jpegs as output, so I had to make the shot right when shooting. But looking back now, and reviewing my shots, I'm happy with the results and don't think I'll be heading back to use RAW.
📸 With my enjoyment of shooting daily and downloading my shots on my phone to use them in my Polarsteps report for the home front, I started to daily publish a few shots in my snapshots section, and I liked doing it. I'm even considering keeping this dailish habit, to share more shots I've taken, but also to keep me in shooting mode while back home.
📺 Watched
- 📺 The bear - season 4.
🎮 Games
- I'm still enjoying deckbuilding games and spent some time with Wildfrost. A cute and well-designed game which is easy to learn but hard to master.

📱 Apps in focus
Bear note-taking app gets a web version. Currently still in beta, but I'm very excited about this. Bear is a lightweight, fast and good-looking note-taking app, so being able to access it via web is great. The lack of a web version made me move to Obsidian as I couldn't access my notes when I'm on Windows. Not sure I'll be moving back to Bear, but still, it's great to see this update.
Days Since (iOS). A free and simple app to keep track of past events, with reminder and widget support.
NextDNS. I only recently discovered this great firewall to keep you safe from malicious sites and trackers. It's available for all devices, and once it's enabled, it blocks whatever is necessary. Besides full control of what is blocked, it also has logs of devices and activity. With this, I can see the calls that my devices make, even when I'm not using them. You get 300.000 queries for free each month, with a cheap yearly upgrade to cover everything.

Creating a website from Obsidian by Steve, on how you can publish selected Obsidian notes.
Experimental June: week four by Manu. On cutting down his digital time and the effects this had.
Learning to Live by Lou plummer. On living with bipolar disorder and the appreciation for the small web and its friendly people.
I Deleted My Second Brain by Joan Westenberg. On how she deleted everything she ever captured and the mental clarity she gained from it. While I'm not going to delete my Obsidian vault any time soon, I do agree with her point of view that the act of capturing and organising everything for a time later can add unnecessary friction for things you might never revisit. That's also why I stopped collecting random things and use my vault for journaling and keeping track of the things that matter to me. Everything else can go into temporary apps.
You Don’t Have to Be “Good” at Photography, And That’s Totally Okay. A nice reminder that photography is about how you see the world and that you don't need to copy or compare yourself to others. Just shoot and see where it takes you.
🏋️ Fitness log
Not much to add here. With the time off and spraining my ankle (twice) during the holiday, I didn't do much more than the daily walks.
