Experimenting with a new mood.camera recipe
⏪ Week in rewind
🥳 We've had 2 birthday parties for the twins over the long weekend (including yesterday) and I feel I finally have time for decompression. One was for the family, so not that stressful, but still, tension was rising the days before, as gifts, food and drink needed to be available/perfect. The other, however, was something I was dreading: the classmates' party, at home. Food, drinks and gifts were not an issue; the fear was more about keeping 12 7-year-olds entertained for 3 hours. And rightfully so. 15 Minutes after their arrival, we wanted to start some planned activities, where some, including the twins, deviated and wanted to do their own thing. Marge and I were thinking about how to get through the next 2h45min; however, since there was enough to do in and around the house, smaller groups formed that we could manage. In the end, we survived, and all the children were happy, but this will be the last time we do a birthday party at home.
💊 While training for my 20km running event (which ended badly), I noticed that my health signals were not going in the right direction. My HRV continued to drop, and I got a cold. Still, I ran the event, but not with the result I imagined and suffered the days afterwards with soreness and tiredness. That was 2 weeks ago, and only now, after going to bed early for many days, I feel I've recovered, with my HRV back to normal again. I'm not sure what I suffered from, but definitely, something was wrong, I know now. And now, I feel I can start training again for my upcoming marathon in December.
🏃 Speaking of running, my oldest son will run his first event this Sunday. A 5k local event which he's looking forward to. I'm sure he'll do ok, but just to be sure, we've been doing some runs together to prepare him. And I really enjoyed spending this time together with him.
📷 As the Fujifilm X half still keeps me intrigued, I wrote about an experiment I did last weekend with my X100VI, which made me reflect on my photography needs. These newly gained insights were still on my mind when photographing both birthday events. Everything was shot through the optical viewfinder and jpg only. And I also need to thank Hiro for referencing my post in his latest newsletter.
📸 This regained knowledge also pushed me to shoot and publish more, so I've added quite a few additions to my snapshots.
📱 Although I do not write full app reviews, I do have knowledge about many and often mention those I found or tested in a given week. For this reason, I thought it would be useful to create an app library that anyone can use in case they are looking for something, and to keep a history for myself.
🖼️ We don't have too many gadgets at home, but since I saw a few more references to the TRMNL e-ink display, I'm thinking of getting one for our family. Countdown calendars, to-dos, chore lists,... are kept ad hoc, not always up to date, but with such e-ink display, we have 1 location to show it all.
📺 Watched
I still need to finish Andor, but due to the birthday preparations and early nights, I haven't watched anything.
📚 Reading
No reading last week 😒
📱 Apps in focus
!Camera from Not boring, known for great-looking apps. Their latest release is a camera app, trying to mimic the experience of a premium camera. It has a 3D feel to it and supports using colour grading LUTs to create realistic film simulations and unique cinematic looks. Free version available, but to unlock all features, you need a subscription of 15$/year. It's a nice addition to the ever-growing list of camera apps. I played around with it, and it's nice, but so far will not tear me away from mood.camera.
Photo Tape. As I wanted to mimic the X Half behaviour of combining 2 photos in 1 shot, I set out to look for an app that would do just that. After a long search, I found a very easy and straightforward solution, Photo Tape. Add as many photos as you need, tape them together, with or without a border, and export. It comes with a one-time unlock of 5$, but I preferred this over other collage apps filled with unnecessary features, ads and watermarks.
