Weekly rewind - W22
The Roman-themed restaurant in Irrland, shot with mood.camera
βͺ Week in rewind
π Last weekβs 20 km run really took a toll on my body. While I normally don't suffer much after running events, unless it's a hard one like a marathon, I really struggled with soreness in my legs for 3 days. I took most of the week off from doing any sports, except for Monday, when I had to participate in a full soccer training with my son, to finish the season. Talk about torture π. The good thing about taking an easy week is that my knee has fully healed again and feels ready to go running again.
βοΈ I wrote more in-depth about my 20km race, and while it didn't go as I planned, I took it as mental training for anything that is to come in the future. See Not everything is meant to go well (and thatβs a good thing) βοΈπ to read the full blogpost.
π With the long weekend, we've been off for a trip with the family to the Netherlands. As the weather was really nice, we spent 2 full days at Irrland (in Germany, close to the border), an aeroplane and Roman-themed amusement park, where there was so much to do for the boys. We've already been here a few times, but now it really shows they're growing up, as we've been doing a lot of reading while they were close by, doing whatever they wanted. Win-win.
π The location where we were staying overnight didn't have wifi by default, and while we did get some access codes for a local network, I didn't bother doing the setup process. This way, most of our evening leisure was spent offline, with reading or offline gaming. Similar for the boys, who didn't complain about the lack of YouTube, but enjoyed themselves with offline games. In a way, not having wifi was a great reset of the things we are used to, forcing us to enjoy things we want to do but never take the time for.
π· I'm still intrigued by the Fujifilm X half, and while I'm not a fan of the vertical format, I do like its restrictions, like no emulation preview or photos locked until you shoot x number of shots. To test this workflow, I disabled all features on my X100VI for the weekend away, and only used the optical viewfinder, like the X Half has. At first, it felt weird, but now that I've used it for a few days, I'm not sure I'll be going back to the electronic viewfinder. Overall, this was a great experiment to asses what I really need from photography. I'll write about it in a more extensive blog post.
π§βπ³ I've also been shooting a bit with my phone and mood.camera loaded with my own recipe. I finally shared it with the community on Reddit and received some nice feedback, and even got my recipe featured on the official Instagram account.
π§ I've been using Obsidian for more than 4 years as my journal and log of things and always figured out a way to store and organise things. It's nice to see they're about to launch (data)bases as a way to filter and view everything you've stored. Seeing this introduction video by Milo from Linking your thinking made me very excited, but also made me realise that I didn't put a lot of effort into the looks of my Vault yet. I know, you can lose a lot of time working on that, so I just copied the "soft paper" theme from Milo, which made me enjoy and use Obsidian even more.

π Reading
- π Imperium by Robert Harris. I've had a lot of time to read over the weekend, and I've been enjoying every chapter of this book.
By being so consumed in reading and away for the long weekend (or preparing for it), I've not read many articles, except for the RSS feeds I follow. Nor did I find or go looking for interesting apps.
