Weekly rewind - W11 ⏪

⏪ Week in rewind
🩺 I've not been at my best last week. I wasn't feeling well at the start of the week and my sleep also got hit with night interruptions due to one of my sons being sick. As a result, I felt unfocused during some days and spent most days on the sofa during the evening, instead of doing something useful. But I'll not complain too much, as this is just temporary and seeing other people suffer much worse in general.
🏃 To push myself to get in shape to ensure I'm at my best for the Valencia Marathon in December, I registered for a 20k race. This event was sold out (40.000 tickets) in 15 minutes, so I'm happy I can participate, thanks to a friend. I ran my 20K Personal Best at this event last year, but with my fluctuating health, I'll be happy with finishing in a decent time frame.
🏃 My son is committed to his race in June, so we went out for a run together. Albeit only 3km in total, I told him to speed up for the last 250m and I honestly had to make some effort to keep up with him. I hear other fathers talk about getting beaten by their children, so I can only hope that moment is still far away.
📷 I received more notifications from my Glass photography account, which apparently was due to one of my photos being featured on the homepage (see above). I like the shot and mood, but if you use a big screen you'll notice it looks blurry, as the show was taken at night with my phone. Again a reminder that you don't need expensive gear to take great photos. Besides this shot, I also completed week 4 of the composition challenge, focusing on isolation & contrast.
🎮 I recently decided to buy a retro hand-held console to re-play games from my childhood. And I've had so much fun with it, remembering scenes and moments from when I played them 30 years ago. My boys also discovered it, calling it our Gameboy, and it's great seeing them get caught up in these games instead of the dopamine-invested games of today.
📺 Watched
📺 Star Wars: Skeleton Crew (👍 - Liked it). Turned out better than I expected.
📺 The Day of the Jackal. We're only 4 episodes in but I love it so far. Great show, filming and music!
🎞️ The Father (👍 - Liked it). About a man who is starting to lose his grip on reality (Alzheimer's) and the people taking care of him. Fantastic performance by Anthony Hopkins. Very touching and dramatic ending.

📱 Apps in focus
Tweek (iOS, Android, Web). A minimal weekly planner & to-do list. While traditional calendars and to-do managers show everything per day or via a rolling view, Tweek shows all tasks and events per week. So you have an immediate view of everything for the selected week. I really like the minimal view of things and how easy it is to add, move, and complete things. And it allows printing in case that is needed.
Tripsy (iOS, Mac). An all-in-one travel planner. Plan and keep track of all upcoming trips, storing flight details, accommodations, reservations,... We're using it for our upcoming Malta trip and it's so easy to add and plan everything! A nice feature is that you can email reservations which automatically get added to each trip.
Agbr (iOS, Mac). A Black and White photo editor from the creators of the BLACK and 65×24 app. Import a photo from your camera roll and apply any of the 11 available emulations (more to come) giving it an analogue photography look. I love BnW photos so I immediately gave this one a try (9.99$ - 1-time purchase), especially since it already includes Ilford HP5 which is one of my favourite BnW looks.
🎧 Listened
- 💿 EELS - Being Dead (👍 - Liked it). Started listening by accident, thinking it was from the band Eels, instead of finding out it was the title of the album. But I enjoyed it. All sorts of vibes like Beach Boys, Fleetwood Mac, ...
🎮 Played
So many great retro games available, but settled on the following ones (for the time being):
🎮 Super Mario World
🎮 Chrono Trigger
🎮 The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
🏋️ Fitness log
- 🏃 Running: 32km (😐 - less than it should but happy overall and doing a long 16km run)
- 🚴 Biking: 50km (👍 - Commuting & going to the office)
