Road to Valencia - Part 7 ๐Ÿƒ

Intro

This is an ongoing series of how I'm preparing for the marathon of Valencia, taking place on Dec 7th. I'm using Stryd to train for this event based on running power, a metric I have found very useful for the past years.

I'm ramping up my fitness, hope to finish somewhere around 3h10 / 3h15.

Read my introduction post here or check out the full series.

Week 6 training schedule

Distance: 70km

Week 6 review

Overall feeling: Happy ๐Ÿ™‚

I stayed true to my schedule, completed all runs as planned and managed to get to 70km in total, which I'm really happy about. My body is coping well with all the training, and even the long run of 24km on Sunday felt ok, even though I had a worse night and preparation due to a late-night birthday party.

Additional training, tools & comments

I still haven't managed to fit in all the strength training as I wanted to, as I don't want to risk injuries with the extra load I would put on my body this way.

While doing my quick intervals, I noticed my breathing wasn't optimal, and I felt I would rather need to stop from breathing issues rather than my body being too tired to continue. As a result, I've been doing some digging into optimal breathing techniques and tried to incorporate them in my runs. I breathe in fully through my mouth and breathe out via pursed lips to maximise oxygen intake and pressurise the lungs for better future resistance to high-impact runs.

This week

I'm writing this on Thursday as I've been feeling a bit under the weather the past days, so some adjustments to the below schedule will be needed. And I'll not force myself to catch up, as that can cause over-training issues in the future. But you can read about that next week.

Planned schedule:
