Don't wait for tomorrow - Start now! ✍️
Yesterday, I received an email from Arnold Schwarzenegger. Indeed, Arnold I'll be back Schwarzenegger. In fact, every day, he sends me an email.
Truth be told, I'm not that special, as he does that with many others who are subscribed to his Pump Club newsletter, via which he shares advice on exercise, living, nutrition,...
But let me talk about what he shared yesterday.
We have just 60 days left in the year.
The message was simple but powerful: don't wait until January 1st to begin something new. Every day is an opportunity, and waiting only adds to the missed chances. The email was a timely reminder of the often-overlooked idea that, while we may look to the calendar for fresh starts, any day can serve as our "new beginning."
Arnold's message reminded me of a quote I saved from James Clear.
“When you're younger, it's easy to underestimate how fleeting the days can be. Each choice matters. Each day matters.
When you're older, it's easy to underestimate how much opportunity you still have. Don't talk yourself out of it. It's never too late to start."
These words underscore an important reality: whether we’re just beginning or have put off goals for a while, we often overestimate the limitations of time, and in doing so, we miss countless moments of potential.
I saw this recently in my own life. After a tough few days last week, I kept postponing my training, saying I’d resume "next week." But when I finally got myself moving on Sunday, I felt that familiar sense of satisfaction and energy again. I was immediately frustrated with myself for not having started sooner. Yesterday, inspired by this realization and Arnold's words, I followed up with an indoor bike session, not allowing myself to fall back into that same cycle of delay. These small actions served as a personal reminder that momentum is often just one decision away.
It’s a similar story to my writing. During a difficult period, I skipped a few chances to write, and as more days passed, it became harder to restart. I found myself thinking “tomorrow” or “next week”—but as the days stacked up, so did the difficulty of getting back into it. The simple truth I came to understand is that "waiting for the right moment" is usually just an excuse. And by delaying, we make things harder for ourselves.
This idea isn’t unique to fitness or writing. Whether it's a goal to get healthier, take up a new hobby, or invest in a relationship, the principle is the same. Instead of planning how or when to begin, just start. Take a small step today—because even a small start is better than no start.
Yordi shared the same advice from his experience at a conference, the best approach is action. Inspired by a professor who built a full-size arcade machine, he realized how much can be accomplished if we simply start, instead of endlessly planning.
This slogan from Nike is clear. Today is all we truly have to work with. By embracing that mindset, we empower ourselves to achieve more, starting now.
So here’s my advice, to myself and anyone else who’s been waiting for the “right” moment: Take the first step today.
Momentum is built through movement, and once it’s there, it propels you forward. There’s no better day to start than today.
